Default Busting Fallacies

This is related to another of my posts over the weekend.

Several times in this forum I've seen references to a sleeping TV module in the NA A8. I've been both sceptical and lazy.

However this morning I looked it up in the A8 service manual ('04), and proceded out to the car. It took me longer to walk ou to the car than to verify the exsitence or in our case non-exsitence of the TV module.

Sadly, we do not have a TV module in our A8's. If you to would like to verify this please refer to the pretty pic I've posted.

Now we don't have sleeping TV fallacies to deal with, we can concentrate on the real task at hand, where to we get a NTSC TV module from.

So much for relying on the "experts"!

Default You might have found the module area to add other things...

DVD player, or other video feeds.

Default What experts?

There is little to no expertise that I have found on this subject, just lots of speculation and false assumptions and just plain wrong information. Thanks to Badmyan for checking this out.

I'm guessing that the MMI unit has a 16:9 aspect ratio based on its dimensions. Is someone willing to get their hands on a Euro OEM TV Tuner, a wiring kit like the 1216 from Audiotechnik Dietz ® Vertriebs-GmbH and hook it up to a 16:9 PAL/NTSC convertor to see if the MMI will recognize it?

I'm guessing that a OEM PAL TV Tuner connected to a wiring kit like the 1216 would allow you to connect a PAL/NTSC convertor to the composite video feed and then the audio and converted NTSC video could be connected to an auxilliary DVD player. Any EE types here who can add to this or am I just full of sh*t?

1216 wiring kit

Default I plan on talking to this company about installation in the absence of a TV module

I'm intrested enough in doing this to import and try this if these at least a chance of it working.

Default These guys are importing OEM TV Tuners

already so they should be able to get the Euro D3 TV tuners designed for the MMI unit.
