Camshaft position sensor:

I re-read this thread and I just caught that you never found the exhaust CPS, am I correct in my understanding ?
Here are the layouts of the CPS sensors and the VVT solenoids, and this is some info I came across on the VVT's, being that the crank position sensor and the cam position sensors correlate with each other to prove the piston is at TDC in a certain cylinder at a given time and that the cam and crank should be seen by the ECM in their proper positions, I have read that the VVT can and does become clogged by sludge and dirty oil, and in-turn this leads to the cam not being in it's proper position at start up, leading to the ECM not seeing the correct position and throwing code, in these cases they pulled the VVT on the coding cam and cleaned it, all was good after, NOW these were not A8's, but A6's with FSI V8, IIRC.
As MP stated check the wiring of said CPS's, here is a link to testing CPS and VVT.
Now in this link he is speaking of "P0019 Bank 2" code, but it is the same principal for bank 1.
P0019 ? Crankshaft position/camshaft position, bank 2 sensor B -correlation ? OBD2 Trouble Codes

Yes...I changed the CPS on the passenger side that's next to the intake manifold. Sensor B Bank 1.
So I should pull the VVT's and clean them? With contact cleaner?

No clue as I had a BFM in my D3. But it makes sense that it would be easier to pull the air box. How about you unplug the intake sensor and see what code you get? If it comes up as sensor A bank 1 then you know that you're on the right track.

Unplugged the passenger side intake sensor....got the same code....cleared it...scanned again...didn't throw the code again.
Thinking it was the oil....I sprayed that cleaner in it....hopefully it is good to go. If it throws it again..I'll clean the VVT sensors.

I don't know what else to do in order to help you at this point. We have all tried. You certainly won't get a code indicating that a signal is too high if the sensor is unplugged and there is no signal at all. We're down to common trouble shooting methods and I don't know how to teach that over the internet. If the code continues to be an issue you'll have to take it to a shop.
