Car overheated twice
My 04 A8 overheated last week. The dealer replace thermostat and changed out coolant and pressurized system. Pick the car up on Tuesday and it over heated again Thursday on my way to NY. Is there anything else why it would overheat or could the dealer put in a faulty thermostat or never did it? LOL

Re: Car overheated twice
Its at the dealer now. Took it yesterday afternoon. Had to drive the car to the dealer because last week it got towed there and I guess they forgot to put the tow bar back in the trunk so I drove it and told them it was not there so they can replace it. As for the loaner, they dont even have R8 there at all and they have me a A4 avant. They loaned out the Q7's and A6's before I got there. Boy am I pissed about having this little car. i am 6'4 and all they can say was sorry here are your keys.

Re: Car overheated twice
Man, very strange issues your having. Please keep us informed. My dealer gave me the same line about no A8/A6/Q7 loaners avail, after the second time of getting an A4 I spoke to GM and just reminded him that although the loaner is free it makes no sense to put your D3 owners in step down vehicles, because I'm sure Audi wants us all to buy a D4. We all have come to expect a certain comfort and performance in our cars, so most, if not all of us are so uncomfortable in an A4. just makes the service experience that much more chaotic, especially when you car will certainly be there for a couple weeks. Needless to say I have/will never get another A4 loaner.
Sorry I got on the soap box a lil bit. Nothing against you A4 owners, but my car is used for business and A4 just won't cut it.

Most likely there is air in the system. Needs bled.
It's also possible that the new t-stat is defective, but unlikely.
Did the cooling fans come on? One possible cause of overheating is fan failure.

Yes the fans was running. So I dont think that was the cause. I had to the car for 6 months. Out of the 6 months it been in the shop for a month and half. Not a good look for the A8. I might have to do some reconsidering the next time I purchase my car. I love the car. It just stay in the shop to much.

Feel your pain - my 05 just had the Tstat replaced at 18,000 miles.
Very common problem with all the 40V engines across the Audi line.
If the dealer did not properly install the T-stat (I've heard of them being put in upside down on some cars)or if the system was not properly bled of air, that's a service issue to be certain.
