When was the last time you changed your spark plugs? If you haven't, that's where I would start. If you want to swap the cylinder number 8 coil pack with another cylinder while you are in there, if it comes back, and it goes to that cylinder that you changed the coil pack to, you know it's the coil pack. Basically the same thing happened to my 2010 Q5, it was a plug, but I replaced the plugs and the coil packs. Same basic codes.

Thanks much! I've had the car since January and I'll definitely start examining those coil packs and plugs for replacement.

If you are getting these codes and its shutting down a cylinder, I would not drive it unless absolutely necessary, you don't want unburnt fuel going into the CATs. But that's why it shuts the cylinder down.

I have another vehicle to drive until I get the parts and get on it. Thanks.

Thanks for your input. I did change out the plug and coil pack for cylinder 8 and it solved the misfire problem. I have to replace the other (7) plugs and packs but I will get them from the local dealership. Thanks again!

Awesome, glad to hear! I didn't do the plug change on my wife's Q5, had about 75K miles and look what happened. One just corroded and had the bad connection.....would be a lot easier to change them every 60K miles. I then went and bought new plugs for the S8 and changed them out before anything went wrong.

I went and changed all plugs and coil packs and now i'm getting (3) misfires on cylinders 3, 6 and 8. Am I doing something wrong? Can you explain the procedure in case i'm missing something? Thanks.

Hmmmm. They come already gaped, so that shouldn't be an issue. Did you find any oil in the spark plug wells? wondering if some dripped down and caused a momentary misfire. Try to clear the codes and start it back up. As long as you felt the click of the harness and coils, you should be good, it's a very straight forward process.

I would:
Check to make sure you hooked everything up tightly: Coils, air intake, MAF
Clear codes
Try again

One thing I didn't do was to use my torque wrench to tighten each plug to spec. But I gave each one a 1/4 turn after if was snug. If I need to torque, what is the actual setting? I'll have to re-check everything this evening. Thanks.
