Guys; I meant to say at the time I read this that I've seen a quote from Elsawin somewhere where it says "reused and new ECUs are both subject to CP", so the dealer installing is supposed to know how to do this.

As Giovanni said above, he had a new one. So it's not because it came from a Q7!

But this is a strange area [possibly because Audi made an error]. The Q7's have their own part number; you can see on eBay that [some/most] early Q7 Gateways have a 4L0 HW and SW number.

I would deduce that the early gateways were A8 HW/SW because it came first. When the Q7 came out there were Q7 specific Gateways as marked by 4L0 HW/SW.

I'm not sure why Audi would start putting 4L0 software into parts marked 4E0 hardware and possibly that's the source of unexpected issues.

There's another thread with the same type of 'hybrid' Gateway that I thought was illicitly built when I saw it. It too had a 4L0 software in a Gateway with a 4E0 HW number.

Julian

And, of course, the 'sort of compatible' A6's had their Gateways marked 4F0 HW/SW too

Hello Julian,
Here is one more to confuse you and me both, my US model 05 A8L W12 had a MMI CH as pictured below with "4E0 035 729" and "BE 6346", when I did my OE retrofit of RVC & TV tuner, I replaced said MMI CH with a "4E0 035 729 A" with "BE 6348", and here's the kicker, the MMI CH came from Carl at A8Parts in the UK...... So where does the "8" come in ??
As you saw from my table, 6346 and 6348 do not feature in the 5570 table. Perhaps you'll find them in the US 4610 module associated with the 'with' and 'without' versions of the CH?

And despite what the seller said; that's not an A4 code SW code! 8T0 is the prefix for A5s.

I have the disc, but for ICNR how to see what you listed, and +1 on the A5 MMI CH.

And just below and left of what you outlined is the literal "6346".

Excellent; so you've proved what you saw yourself with your previous pictures. The A8 CH's with US MMI code identify themselves as 6346 [without] and 6348 [with] video connector.

So that raises the interesting question of whether the CH you got from A8Parts was already a 6348 or you made it one by the 4610 update. Do you have a label pic?

And if you'd gone slightly lower in your screen print we could have seen what other device codes are supported in US 4610. We can just see the A6 codes of 6361 and 6303.

OK so I got my "new" CH yesterday. It's from a 2007 D3. I'll let the pictures tell the story.

Original CH. BE 6346, without video. Looks like it had been updated to MMI 0600 just before installation and that was manually noted on the label.

New CH. CH 6348, with video. I found it had been updated to 4140, so I updated again to 4610, now it's working fine (except for CP).

Thanks for that update that confirms what GG and I 'found' by looking at the MMI code.

Now we wait to see how you get on with CP.

I think it's time to confirm all the myths about CP.
1. Check the head unit components against your car components? Hope you took screen shots of all original components. If all matched and still CP?
2. Use the EEPROM programmer to extract the data of "A" and save it. Extract the data of no "A" and program it to the "A". Still CP?
3. Try the dealers.

Cheers,
Louis
