Default MMI upgrade from SW 41.4 to the Latest version

Hello Guys,

I bought a 2008 Audi A8 4.2L a week ago and found out that the MMI version i have is pretty old. I don't have any problems with the MMI as yet (just the voice commands fails and in general the system is not that interactive) it has a mono color screen menu.

Current SW: D3-HU-41.4.0 0709
HW: D3-HU 6348D2.0
FC SW: 06231AFC6AB320050
FC PS: 0050 FC HW: H01

Would anyone tell me how dated the above version?
What latest version can this current version be upgraded to?
What features will i be getting with a software upgrade?

The dealership is charging $360 for the CD + Labour and they even don't know exactly what additional features will i get with an upgrade ( other than improved Navigation )
I know this topic has already been listed in the thread but i am not getting a proper answer specially to above version in my car.

Can this menu and settings be changed with an upgraded MMI software version?

Default 41.4 is the same as my 2008 Q7 and it's working fine

I didn't even update to 4610. If something fails, it's not the software problem. You may be asking the dealer to fix something that's working. Find the real problems and fix it.

Cheers,

Louis

Default Please search archives first; basic recap

Please search first. This information is plainly out there. I myself have posted on it several times, on this board.

Briefly, as already noted version 4.1.40, aka 4140, is the next to last version. It has pretty much the final changes to the U.I. (altitude display, more song track info, etc.). The final version was 4610. It supposedly modestly cleaned up bluetooth related connectivity w/ a variety phones--for Apple for example, by then it was at best an iPhone 4 (pre-S), and they seemed to have a quiet back door relationship earlier on. Others like Samsung were still coming into their prime, and that was still an era w/ HTC, Nokia, Blackberry, etc.

4610 also made updating from old versions easier. Arguably 4610's primary purpose relative to 4140 was to deep six the almost fatally flawed sequential update requirement that 4140 had if you were coming from its respective predecessors (anything before 3000); a few systems got bricked at $2000 a pop. If you already have 4140 though, that's irrelevant to you.

@Louis - Thanks for the advise - i wanted to make sure that i get few issues fixed within the 36 days of the purchase. The dealership will be able to fix without me paying for labour and parts within 36 days of the purchase. Even if this is not an issue - i just wanted to know if it is worth buying an upgrade CD for $300 and have them update the software version.

@MP4 - Thanks for the information. I will continue to search harder to find he right answer. I just wanted to know if it is worth upgrading to the newer version and if that version would change certain graphic options like (drive modes window, navigation voice features like how new Audis are equiped with etc.)

Update CD 4610 part number 4F0 998 961 is $24.18 here. It takes about 1 hour or less to update. I really like your dealer.

Edit: There is no good reason for updating it in your case. May be later if you have some phone problems.

I agree with MP and Mishar, there is really no benefit for you to pay the dealer to do it. If you want to do it yourself, a $30 investment is no big deal. I went to 4610 but when I got my car the software was 1170.

Default Audi D3's have...

voice related commands for a whole variety of things, if that is you have the standard U.S. spec one, or otherwise the "high" system if somewhere else. The button to actuate it is on the steering wheel.

The D3's are the earlier "2D" system so don't have birdseye view and things like that, unless you have a 2009+ Euro model. They also don't have any "Drive select type" stuff beyond the basic suspension height setting, and "S" mode via the shifter.

Besides, bug fixes, about all "new" that was ever activated w/ updates was the ability to install AMI with 3360, and the track info and altitude display with 4140, which you already have. They fixed some issues with surround sound with 3360, but didn't change the UI.

Somewhere along the way, the ability to turn off TPMS was also changed, but maybe only on U.S. ones, plus not totally clear which update of what did it. A few U.S. cars folks have at least used to have TPMS you could turn off, but for most it takes VAGCOM/VCDS to do it. I have TPMS, but also used to be able to turn it off via MMI. Lost it somewhere along the road of dealer services.

Thanks everyone for your support and advise.
@Mishar The deal is great - thanks for the link - and i know there are tons of videos for updating the MMI - But then again with all the comments - if there is no visible change to the UI (like having 3D maps and Birds eyeview etc.) it's not a priority any more.
@Mishar/MP - can you please see the image attached and confirm if i am looking at the right part - it says Repair Kit (nothing related to a CD)

That's the right one. Or two. You will get two CD's.
