Default Dreaded engine light...

Hello all, my engine light is on, and I notice that the car is taking longer to start. For instance, when I start it in the morning it cranks for maybe 3-4 seconds before start, whereas it usually is almost immediate.

I know this could be many things, and I don't have the cable yet, but I was hoping someone may have an idea or previous experience.

Thanks much, Dan

That's recipe for wasting money. Similar experiences and guessing can easily mislead you. VCDS is the only way.

Yes, I was afraid of that. Anyone around St. Pete with VCDS want to help me with running the codes? I suppose I should just buy it...

I remembered we have a foreign car shop nearby who advertises Audi, they will run the codes for me Wednesday.

IF it comes up low fuel at idle, there are a couple of posts here. Could be a sensor, but also could be a plugged or partially plugged injector. I cleaned mine with LiquiMoly Jectron fuel injector cleaner - seemed to work better than Techron

My engine light has been a challenge. Initially came on at 80K and indicated the car was running BOTH too rich and too lean. Cleaned the injectors and replaced the air filter. Cleared the light for about 25 miles then back on again. Dealership kept the car for 10 days the next time. Finally diagnosed a loose manifold. Cleared the light for about 15 miles. Back in the shop for another week. Now it is supposedly a leaking head gasket that has fouled the spark plugs! Either the dealership has no idea what the problem is or the car is throwing off unusual or unclear codes.

Love the car and get to drive some great new Audi's while its in the shop (S4 and Q7). However, I look forward to the day when that darn light stays off for over 75 miles. This is the 3rd and last time with the dealership.
