The excellent security system in our D3s...
...Prevented me, the owner of the said vehicle, from gaining access to it this evening after getting off the train!
This is the 3rd time this has happened since I've gotten the car in October '04. I use the remote to unlock the car and nothing...just a green light on the remote.
Not knowing that there was a key access to the door initially, I unlocked the trunk using the key which set off the alarm. Then finding the door key access and getting into the car, the ignition would not respond to the key until I remove and re-insert the key a couple of times before it seemed to finally recognize the key.
Anyone else had anything like this happen before?

Had similar happen once...car would not unlock with key button push. Opened door with key and it started OK. The dealer replaced all three keys, though.

Re: The excellent security system in our D3s...
Something quite similar happend to me in a loaner:
The car had the nice keyless-go feature, which seemed to work fine in the beginning. After a 50km drive I noticed walking away from the car, that it would not lock itself like it is supposed to do. Using the remote nothing happened. Ever tried to LOCK a D3 with the emergency key access... ?
When I came back a couple of hours later keyless-access didn't work. Remote? Didn't work. After getting in the car the start-button didn't work. So I put the key in the ignition switch and nothing happened. After trying for a few times the car finally started....
The next day, the car acted like nothing ever happened..... *confused*

How does one open...
..a car that has advanced key if the remote doesn't work?
I just realized that I was never told of a method to accomplish this, and I cannot find reference to it in the manual. I am sure it is there, but I can't find it.
I guess the dealer just "forgot" to tell me how to do this.
Hurumph!

Re: How does one open...
There should be a section in the manual covering this...
Pull the door handle towards you and insert the key on the right side (where the key entry used to be) from below the handle.
Sorry, I'm not a native speaker and I don't know how to discribe it better

I've tried a similar keyless go system in rented Cadillac STS
And it has worked flawlessly, so I have faith in the system; if GM can get it right, then surely the Teutonic marques will too.
BTW, if you like XM, Hertz now provide rentals with it, like the STS I've had a couple of times now while on business in LA.

The same thing happened to me in Cleveland, OH Airport a month ago. The car sat their for 9 days and the battery went dead. When I hit the trunk button the alarm went off and would not stop. Dealer never showed me the two key entries into the car nor did I ever see them after countless wash and wax. I called Audi Roadside and they didn't have a clue, sad! The car sat their another day because it was late on a Sunday and I called the dealer to find out how to get in. After a quick connect to a battery charger it took off. NOW I KNOW!
