Expensive Lesson Learned..Mr. Bally Was Right!!
So after months of wasted time and money replacing suspension parts chasing down a drivers side clunk right after having my failed OEM strut replaced by 2 sets of brand new Arnotts and 3 sets of RMT rebuilds (reference here

https://www.audiworld.com/forums/a8-...truts-2922185/
Finally got it figured out.....It was not the install, not a control arm or sway links or any other component, it was the junk replacement struts.
Found a pair of used OEMs pulled off an 06 from a salvage yard and problem disappeared.
Stay away from these rebuilt pieces of a crap and bite the bullet to pay new OEM ($1500 per strut) or find a used OEM strut. So much time and money wasted on labor trying to figure this out I could have purchased 2 new OEM struts.
Mr Bally, you were right:

It's all in the original strut... if your struts are good, keep them. Original struts are always good. If you can't replace the air spring bag, yes, buy the OEM assembly.

Arrrrggghh!! I spoke too soon. Couple of days later and the noise returns! Same driver side yet this time it's more of a knock than a clunk. This is ridiculous. Can it be these used OEM struts are also bad? (Came off an 06 from a reputable Audi salvage shop named Force5)? Or perhaps it's a sign this car is just doomed and to move on

1. do a careful examination of suspension compressor mounts to be sure they aren't rattling. Physically it is in the right general area to what you are complaining about.
2. Tighten rack play adjustment. I have posted on it occasionally. Looseness can lead to some rattling over rough surfaces or things like Bolts Dots used to mark lanes, though typically only in non snow areas.

...suspension air compressor mounts or steering rack... I don't think most mechanics think of either, and hardly anyone knows of rack adjustability, let alone how to do it. Compressor mounts have come up several times on board as a rattle area if you search, typically if compressor replaced or fooled with like w/ accident damage or otherwise and someone doesn't put it together right.
