a friend with a 2008 A8 likes the look of my round fogs, and I prefer the look of the face lift fogs...so we are contemplating a swap. Is that possible and what modification would need to be done in order to achieve the swap ?

You should be able to swap the fogs and the grills with no mods. I think the round fogs have a different electrical connector than the square fogs if I remember.

Will an '06 bumper fit an '05 without issue? I need to replace the bumper as it is, but I have found conflicting information as to whether or not I need to replace other parts.

You will need headlights, hood, grill and bumper.

+1, since the 06 came with a fishmouth grill and 05 came with a split grill except for the W12 here in the states.
