Mike Spinelli (afterDrive) hosted more than a couple of youtube shows where they pick a budget and a genre (like 70's super cars) and boyz go to work and get their picks.

But the cleanest Audi for $5K is very intriguing, because there is some really nice kit available. So it could be interesting particularly with international reach.

I wish I could post a link, but there was an '05 A8L with 321K miles which sold for $3k wholesale this week in central jersey. Aside from a torn driver's seat it looked good and drove great, not even an oil leak. I can imagine it selling for $4k-ish on the retail end.

Every week I attend a dealer auction which brings in over 5,000 cars a week. On average there are about 1-2 D3's that show up each week. Slim pickings I must say.

I would love to locate a sub $5K D3 but nooo. The best kit seems to be in the A6 ALLROAD variety 2001-2005 ish. There are D2's but I think I would sway to the Allroad unless the D2 is better?

This is the second cheapest D3 on UK autotrader, the cheapest has a few issues including stuck MMI screen I left it off.

Audi A8 3.0 TDI Quattro 4dr

However, if you want a D2 in the UK they can be got for not much money at all. Although I have no idea how the price compares to an equivalent US/Canadian model.

Audi A8 2.8 4dr

Somebody wants 4000 for this beat up pile.
"Needs timing chain" - Translation - timing belt let go.

For under $5000, this is what I'd spend my money on for an A8.
