Hi All, I have lost boost from the turbo on my D3 A8 2009 3.0l tdi. A garage checked it for fault code and told me there was no signal to the wastegate. Has anyone any idea where I could start looking? please

You don't have a wastegate on that turbo, only variable turbine housing, and an electronic motor controlling the vanes for the exahaust turbine housing. That motor can get screwed up sometimes, and get stuck, and then the ECU will only give minimum fuel to the engine to prevent damage to engine or turbo due to overboost.

Replaced the control motor on my friends 2007 MB S320CDI, basically same part there, a Garrett/Honeywell unit. Can't buy it from audi directly, but there are sellers on ebay that can send you a new or repaired unit. You WILL NEED A CODE from the old unit, so the seller can "code" it, so you just need to plug it in Place.

I can confirm - you need something like this, but you can buy it from Audi directly.

It has to be calibrated on your car; I know that selers can pre-program it (or at least they say so), but my dealer told me that it could barely gain the required pressure (or something like that) so that means that it must match some of the car's current parameters, and that's why I wouldn't trust a pre-programmed one or an used one.

Good ole BorgWarner parts. I worked for their industrial turbo division in North Carolina. I have a fairly negative view of their company, especially after seeing and experiencing the way they treat their employees. Also some of their QA/QC is "interesting" to say the least, they appeared to be focused on quantity over quality, and only fixing issues whenever a purchaser complained.

p.s. ask your mechanic to scan your car and get the Audi DTC.
