Getting odor from Ventilation after A/C runs and is turned off... (eeek!)
When I turn on my A/C no smells, however, when I turn the A/C off and just have the ventilation go afterwards it reeks of wet damp socks for a good half hour before it will go away. Only happens AFTER A/C is used.
Simple fix or spray? (for the car not me!)

probably no simple fix.
Do you have puddles of water under your car after you run the AC? If not then the drains are plugged.

reallly not pretty and we had to get it fixed twice....

I would try Lysol on the fresh air intake under the hood where the cabin filter is..<more>
Remove the cover around the cabin filter and then remove the cabin filter. Turn the car on and make sure the HVAC and A/C are running at high speed. There is a flapper thing that will be open and you can start spraying the lysol or equivalent down into the opening. You want the system to suck the disinfecting spray through all the vents so do not be shy about how much you spray in. Turn the car off and see if the smell is still there. If so repeat the process. When you are finally done spray liberal amounts into the vents from inside the car also and then let it sit. This ought to do the trick. You might also find that the cabin filter needs replacing and the filter holder might need cleaning. Hope this helps.

Turn off the fan or turn off the AC compressor?
You should always leave the fan running, it helps dry out the system. This is common with Audi's (and other cars), I find that it does it most during the spring and fall during large swings in temperature.....not too hot, not too cold.

yes that's my wife's car.
And it wasn't until the *2nd* repair at a second dealer ( which basicailly did the same thing ) to get it fixed right, thank goodness under warranty too.
The system wasn't draining properly.
