Default Headlights / ballast / igniter

Do they decrease in performance over the years or is it they either work or don't?

They change color and degrade a bit before failing completely, seems like.

No issues with them, they work they just aren't bright (white) as they used to be, now turning more yellowish.

How have you narrowed it down to Ballast or igniter, rather than just bulb age? Also, what would you replace, that square igniter that the bulb inserts into, or the ballast module which is much more expensive?

I didn't that's why I'm asking do they decrease in performance over the years lol. Bulbs are about 2 yrs old and no they not the cheap ones. Headlights lenses are cristal clear too.

When I got my new Osrams Nightbreakers last month, I did ask the seller about new ballasts out of curiosity since one of my old bulbs was bluer. He said a failing ballast is a typically a situation where they just stop working. In some rarer cases you may get a bulb going violet 1st, then shortly afterwards not lighting up. That was just his general advice, it was not Audi A8 specific. He did remind me to clean/polish my head light housing for brighter light.
Anyway, maybe someone with experience with actual ballast or igniter problems will chime in.

Cool thanks for the info. I never had any problems with the lights not turning on or flickering. I'll start with a new bulbs and go from there.
