Hose To Nowhere in Intake (intake hose noise suppressor / silencer) 077129951A
(Note p/n in title is incorrect, it's actually 077129951).
Been meaning to search and ask about this thing since I discovered it. In case it's not clear from the picture, it is molded with a capped-off end, no doubt a resonance chamber to keep air intake noise down.
Anyone experimented with it? I myself wish the engine was more audible, and I will get around to removing & plugging it soon to see how it affects the sound.
Perhaps I'll extend it into the cabin and terminate in a diaphragm à la BMW (and I understand some S8s use that technology, but without the recorded engine sounds playing through the speakers ).
Can't find it in any parts cats although it's clearly marked with the above number.
-Tom
edit to get correct p/n in here for future searchers... 077129951

Twins!
What's the chance of this: two hose to no where posts, same day, different countries even. Same part of motor. https://www.audiworld.com/forums/a8-...-hose-2897427/
Assuming its a 4.2, no clue. Never seen one. Audis don't have hoses to no where that I have ever ultimately found. Way old days I used to create them sometimes, but haven't found any in the modern era.
Yeah, O.T. I ripped out one of these sound fraud devices from a Mini once. Shame on BMW and Mini for having to pipe in sound FRAUD across much of their line up. Or, come to my house where I can't quite say to my neighbor with his new shiny 2016 M3 rattle trap that i hear with double pane windows shut every morning, "you actually paid money for that factory sport exhaust" whatever? Seriously? Worse than the other neighbors' various (formerly) trendy BMW and Audi diesels, by a way wide margin.
Back on subject, when you yank on it, where does the other end seem to go? Only thing I can think that has a hose vaguely like that size might be secondary air system--the pump, combi valves, etc. Oil vapor hoses are somewhat smaller and more plastic, plus you would find oil. But you would get codes galore if secondary air stuff open...unless it is maybe the intake for the air pump that drives it? I can't see your air box at all (or in other post), but if anywhere near there, maybe? On my C5 4.2, hose for air system suction side was kind of kludged out the side of the box. On W12 (and S8 I think) it is buried at bottom of driver's box and makes that one a royal pain to get lower part of box out.
BTW, D4 S8 seems to have nothing active sound make believe wise that i have found so far. Does have indirect stuff to smooth out 8-4 cylinder on demand found on the 4.0T's in general. That works seamlessly, and 25-27MPG's highway is a new universe for me at >500 ponies with a foot twitch. You can dial up the exhaust sound a bit in MMI, but I think that is flap control on back pipes. D3 W12 has it where I can pull a vacuum hose; S8's work in reverse vacuum wise so not so easy as W12's apparently. But its probably a performance subtract with an N.A. motor since they want some back pressure at lower revs for more torque. I tried it once and put it back. Old tuner mistake kids often forgot to learn (back pressure good at low N.A. revs) when they do the coffee can exhaust crap to match the purple tint.
Last on subject, go read the part # again. Snap a pic of it close up. Make sure a 1 is not a 7, a 9 not really an 8 slightly worn away, a 3 really an 8, etc. Sometimes the suffix stuff can also dead end you in a parts listing if they superseded it, but in Google just an * wildcard usually overcomes that. I Googled it and just got Italian phone numbers, so part # seems whack so far. In microprint plastic I have misread a number sometimes too until I blew it up on a phone screen. 077 suggests to me it is pretty generic Audi cross models instead of 4D0 type D3 typical stuff. Some of that 077 type stuff can turns into more typical Audi part numbers with a letter or two in first three digits along the way IIRC. I think I saw that with W12 O2 sensor numbering revisions. Anyway, snap a pic of part # clearly focused and blow it up in case of a misread #.

My neighbor has just dropped $70k+ on an M4. Sounds like a bag of bolts. He's recently got some after market exhaust fitted at great expense. Sounds even worse! Literally like it's broken.
How BMW have managed to completely ruin the lovely sound of a high performance straight six I don't know. Traditionally one of the best engine noises out there.

Yep, not any more. Literally the biggest new car piece of junk exhaust I think have heard ever. No smoothness to it at all. Not lumpy cam stuff either. Just sort of the worst of an old diesel on sound steroids. Add to it the painful sound changes as the sequential shift does its thing. Junk sound when cold and outright annoying; only modestly better warmed up. I'ld be embarrassed to drive it or have people think I had no clue. I like a good exhaust, whether a rumbling V8 or an I5 oddity, or a screamer V10 or 12 or whatever. The BMW one is outright crap. Major value subtract to me.

Why did you create hoses to nowhere, E? Drug smuggling? (Good idea; keep the engine on and the dogs would never find it)!
The Parents' Toyletta V6 has a very similar tube and it's called a "intake hose resonance suppressor" or something. I originally thought it was for fording deep water after connecting a snorkel(!)
Wouldn't that be something on an A8. The door gaskets look like they'd be up to the task; but, hell, Audi can't even keep the H2O out in the rain (via sunroof), so never mind anything beyond puddles for now.
This hose is not in its natural position, it normally resides below other components. Definitely not part of secondary air system or combi valves (I'm intimately familiar with both of those systems).
I'm glad others share my disdain of artificial engine sounds.
I am certain the BMW system to which I referred originally would have the acronym "***" ("Active Sound Symposer" IIRC); now the gaffe has been caught and changed to "ASD" - of course; no sense of humor coming from Deutschland...

Secretly, they probably all use Audi V8 sounds.
And once again SuperE (MP4.2+6.0) calls it correctly... I plead typo, because I took about 6 pics of that damn dirty thing to get one clear enough to read... google shows some stuff...
Can't wait to cap it off. I bet it makes no difference.

My friend's/son's Godfather's new ride. Definitely does NOT need any artificial exhaust enhancement. Snarls, pops, and generally makes all the right noises. Stock, with a manual trans IIRC. It's really surprisingly loud. Has the flaps so it quiets down when driven normally.
Can you believe the "V10" plate wasn't taken?
