How to control A8 D3 Interface Module. To know if it's working or not
My Audi A8L D3 2006 4.2L V8 Gas engine was water flooded unfortunately and since then i have no MMI working at all, screen is off and commands buttons on center console are off even though i repair all other issues and the car starts and run fine now.
Water didn't reach the MMI interface module behind the glove box, that part was dry and safe but they told me after running a scan that the module is not working. My question is: is there a way for me to control with a software or some to see if the module is working or not before trying to purchase another interface module? Thank you |
Your Bluetooth module under the carpet driver seat is wet, dry it and it may work

Thank you You didn't say what 'scan' was done but a proper 'Autoscan' VCDS scan with output together with an associated 'Optical Bus' scan will tell you where to start problem fixing. It's probably worth shelling out $199 to buy your own VCDS system if you plan to keep the A8. Julian |

A part-working MMI can be used for checking modules but a 'dead' MMI needs a 'proper' scan with a scan tool on the diagnostic bus.

Hello Itooz_a6_a8_q7. Thank you for your answer, i'm not saying that's not the problem but it sounds weird to me. At first the bluetooth module was sink in water when the flood happened, i did removed all carpets and everything inside the car all the way to the Aluminium chassis and let everything dry. So ii is supposed to be totally dry under there now unless some little moisture got in there. But i don't knosw the link between the bluetooth module being wet and the whole system not working. Can you explain it to me a little more in details?
Thank you |
All MMI stuff use optical MOST bus. One fails all fail hence your MMI is dead. Think of it as your Christmas light, 1 bulb out the whole string is dead.

Louis My understanding is that this MMI is totally dead. Julian |

Hello JulianHicks, thank you for your reply. I actually think i need to get my own VCDS Scan, i actually don't know what kind of scan the shop i sent the car to performed. But my question is what is the right VCDS to get for my car and to get it from. It's a 2006 A8L (D3 Version) V8 4.2L American version. Thank you.
Not sure where you're from but I guess the US, as you have a NAR model  Maybe RossTech direct is your best bet? Julian |

BTW; here's some sample scans from potentially broken and working Interface boxes:

My understanding is that this MMI is totally dead. Julian What everyone needs is the loop test device, not VCDS. Cheers, Louis |
