When the compressor shuts off, the pressure in the supply/exhaust line will naturally bleed off via the non-return valve and exhaust solenoids located within the compressor assembly. At that time the sensor is only measuring the pressure in the supply/exhaust line from the compressor, nothing else. This residual pressure reading is pretty much irrelevant and has no bearing at all on system performance.
Alright, good to know, nice diagram too. So my compressor seeming to peak at 9 bar would probably explain my occasional codes and selection graying out randomly. The car has had 3 front strut failures in total(the two originals plus a used unit failed,) so the pump has probably been stressed, even though the car wasn't driven much with those failures. Since it works mostly, I don't have to hurry, but I will look into the Mercedes pump option, the way I understand it, you just have to rewire the connector, but I will dig on it more.

My first stop would be to do a compressor rebuild before buying a total replacement. Amazon sell the kits for less than $25.

The compressor seemed unable to pump the car up, so I already rebuilt it to solve that.
