Default How many A8 owners experience this?

From a stoplight, with the car in D, you hit the accelerator and the car goes from 1st into 2nd, then 3rd, and when 4th hits, around 40 miles an hour, the rpm drops dramatically (from around 2300 rpm to 1300 rpm, and the car becomes a little sluggish. And for me to get any response from the car, I really have to dip into the accelerator and then the car downshifts and takes off. I can't really tell if it is the 4th or the 3rd gear. But, I want to know if this is common, or if there is something wrong with my car. I own a late 05'. Please advise, I am having new owner anxiety.

I have owned several A8s. None of them ever exhibited this. I also owned a 2005. I would try your test with the ESP turned off to see if it is defeating the power. It may be that the power if being cut-off if the wheels are starting to slip. I would have the dealer check it out.

Yeah, but I have a feeling it is going to come back as "within specs"!

Default I have, and the dealer has fixed the problem......(more)

I experienced the same issue recently. There were multiple problems addressed as part of the fix.

1) There was an updated TSB issued by Audi on Jan 18 07 which instructs the tech to reflash, drain, and refill the tranny with new "blue" fluid. I brought in a copy of the TSB and gave it to the tech. The work was done in late Jan, but the problem came back. The dealer performed the procedure again in late Feb, but this time Audi tech support asked them to drain and refil 3 times (once per day for 3 days) to ensure that all of the "old" fluid was flushed. So far it seems to be working.

2) My foot brake switch was also found to be deffective, it was intermittantly activating ESP, which of course affected drivability (engine speed, transmission, etc) There was a code stored in the ECU pointing to this problem. The dealer replaced the part during my late Feb visit, and suggested that my transmission could heve been affected by this issue as well.

Just got back from a 900mi road trip to northern Maine, and the transmission responded well to the cold temps.

Don't accept the dealer response "This Is A Normal Condition" But, keep in mind that some shops may not be current on recent TSB's. You can be proactive by going to the Bentley Publisher's website (bentleypublishers.com) and subscibing to their D3 A8 online tech manual which provides the latest TSB's

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all these posts! I have the same problem. Dealer changed fluid, which took a week to get from Germany by the way, and it seemed slightly better for a week or so, but now back to same problems. Does anyone have a copy of the TSB they can email or fax me? My email is paulfrakes@hotmail.com, or fax is 630-468-5364. Thanks!

Did you ever get a resolution to this? I am having something that may be similar (losing power on turns, etc.)
