Default I can't believe I own this car.

I just picked up my new A8L this afternoon and finished up a 2.5 hour roadtrip. This car kicks some serious ***. The only car I've drive that compares to it is an older model BMW 750iL. The A8L is just as roomy, but it's lighter, faster, better equipped and has Quattro.

I went in to my local dealer on Friday to check out the new A6 4.2 that they had, only to be disappointed in the headroom (I'm 6'5"). I ended up buying the A8L as the dealer had a leftover '04 car they were clearing out at $10k under MSRP. I NEVER saw myself getting a car like this. Heck, I didn't even plan on getting a car at all that day. I just wanted to take a look at the A6 and maybe order one someday.

Anyway, I'm still learning/playing around with all the new features of the A8L, but I have to say I'm majorly impressed with this car. The combination of the adaptive suspension, 19inch wheels, and the transmission in Sport mode makes for some serious fun on the highway. My biggest problem has been keeping the speed under control as I seem to find myself constantly gravitating to around 95mph. It just feels like the car wants to drive at this speed for some reason. It doesn't help that this is the first car I've ever driven where the road noise doesn't seem to increase at all as the roadspeed goes up.

All in all, I'm very happy today.

Steve

Welcome to the forum!! I've got an 04 A8L serial 8170 (last 4 digits of the serial number) that I purchased one year ago (October 23, 2003) and now have 17700 miles on it. I love it. It is the best car I have ever had. I had a 1999 Mercedes E-320 4matic before and this car now is roomeir by far, quiter, smoother, handles better, and has much better quality. I looked at the S-430 4matic (no comparison and much more expensive) and I did not look at the 7 series BMW as I live in snow country in Wisconsin and really needed quattro. I've had no problems so far. I'm going in next week to get XM satellite installed and the MMI upgrade and new Nav disc. If you need ay questions answered this forum is really helpful.

Default Enjoy the car, but very weary of the speeds

you find yourself driving into 'instant banning' territory every time you venture out.

A8, best car on the planet

Default Steve, congratulations. But don't get too excited about going 95.

If your car holds true to form, you're actually only doing about 88mph.

(Search forum from early this year for discussions on speedos set to reflect a higher speed than actually achieved).

See, you're keeping it more under control than you thought! :-)

Welcome to the D3 forum

Congrats...you certainly got a great deal!

I thought roughly 4K was good? LOL! Oh well.. who knows as the dealer tried to screw me.

If I had to keep one car, the A8 would certainly be it! Just awesome! Enjoy!

Default Welcome!

I have the same feeling. Picked my A8 up 6 weeks ago. The car gets better as it breaks in and the smile grows!
As for speed, I just got my first ticket for 82 mph in a 55! Oops. As for the speedo, as far as I can tell I was indeed doing 82!
Enjoy but take care!
