I got to drive and experience an A8 (SWB) over the weekend
Amazing. I love the smart key feature. I didn't have to pull the key out once! The fit and finish is INCREDIBLE! One word that describes the A8 for me is "execution". The way the Nav screen pops out, the way the trunk opens, the way the doors suck shut... I mean everything about this car is executed perfectly. I love it. I can see where Jason was coming from when he wrote the article titled "I want an A8L".
This car is BIG. I had to get used to the girth and the length. She's very nimble for a luxury cruiser and the power is incredibly smooth and there's enough of it to pull for days on the freeway. But, I wish there was more power.
Sport mode seems to quicken the throttle response and there is a throaty growl when stepping on the gas. The suspension felt taught in the dymanic setting. I felt comfortable taking corners a bit hotter. On the freeway, she tracked straight and true and abosrbed the bumps in the road incredibly well.
Do I want one? Yes.. but not yet. It's still too big for me, I don't need the space. So what's next? I dunno... but the S6 looks extremely tempting.
She looks exactly like this.. same wheels and same color.

Depending on your budget, check out the S8 and S6. They have plenty of power. You can find pictures/specs on both on Google, or the German website for Audi. Go to A8, then S8, and choose English.

Kimcheese, you'll quickly adapt to the size of the A8
I upgraded from a C5 A6 to the A8L and the only time I really notice how big the car is, is when I'm either washing or parking the car. The parktronic option is really a big help and reduces the worry about how much of the car is behind the driver.
You may not need the space of the SWB version, so make sure you get the L version instead ;-) It's very impressive for when someone is back there.
Come on, go for it!

From a Boxster to a 330 Convertible to an A8L......
...and after three months, I don't think I could ever go back to the "small" cars. A friend just got a new Boxster S and we went for a ride. I kept asking myself "did I really drive one of these every day????" ...and then, "WHY???!!!"
Anyway, enjoy what ever you choose...

I guess we have it!
I sure hope those aluminium cans we drink our sodas out of are being correctly "coated" internally as we consume our daily dose of caffeine drinks.

Then we go sit in an enclosed aluminum can...gee!
