It's official. MMI and XM Upgrade campaign announced.
Got a phone call today from my Audi advocate. She had promised to call me just as soon as Audi was ready to finally upgrade the MMI on the '04 A8L to allow for the addition of satellite converters. She promised that I would receive a letter with details of the "MMI Upgrade Campaign", but she summarized the offering to me:
1) Audi will be "upgrading" the MMI on ALL '04 A8L's. This upgrade will add several new features to the MMI.
2) XM and Sirius converters will finally be recognized by the MMI. Ther will be no charge to upgrade the MMI, there will be no charge to install the converter module. You will only be charged for the converter itself.
3) Audi will upgrade the NAV System at the time of the MMI upgrade, and they will provide a new updated Navigation DVD at no charge.
4) Satellite Radio subscriptions with XM and Sirius will be free of charge for the first 90 days of service.
All in all, it looks like Audi of America has not forgotten us. I'll agree that it has taken quite some time for this "campaign" to be offered, my car is a year old already. It is good to know that even us "early adopters" have not been forgotten, even after Audi has released the '05 A8L.
I am impressed by my Audi Advocate. She promised to "keep in touch" in the future. I haven't received my letter from AoA announcing the campaign, I was told to expect it within the next few days.

I received my letter today
It talks about the MMI including a clock and support for satellite radio. A new navigation DVD is included ($199 value) and then future updates would have to be purchased.
The offer is valid through October 8, 2006.
You get $100 off sat radio installation if you have it done before 12/31/2004. My radio has yet to arrive...!
Anyways, it was great receiving this.

Decisions, decisions
My letter arrived today too. The free installation of the satellite radio was a pleasant surprise. Now I have to decide between XM and Sirius. Does anybody here have strong opinions about one vs. the other?

Stanley, my question as well! XM started out as a stronger company
but Sirius has come a long way. Maybe Howard Stern should be the barometer. If you like him, then its Sirius and if you dont..................!!(Although he does drive an 04 A8L)

Instalation is free.... but you still have to buy the receiver
I dont' think installation would be that diffcult so really it's just a sales oppertunity by AoA to hit us up big with a overprices reciever to help offset the cost of the MMI upgrade.... We will most likley fall for the pitch and go with a satalight receiver. Both my wife and daughter think it would be good to have, and I'm OK with it.
