About to buy another D3....Need a little advice.
I am about to purchase another A8 since I miss my 05 and the A6 just ain't cutting it. I definitely am going with a post 2006 either SWB or LWB. I know that 07+ used the updated engine and would like to go with that one, but in my price range most of the cars I find are upwards of 80K miles and are in the range of 18-20K US Dollars. I have done a lot of research on these cars and owned one for 4 yrs...also I like to do most of the work myself, but do you guys think purchasing a used A8 with about 85K for $18000 is worth it? I mean, how much longer is this car going to go for and does that price sound good? Thanks

I think it would be worth it if the car was maintained properly. For the most part the engines and transmissions are reliable. I would look at the air suspension and fault codes. If you buy it, you know about the other issues like control arms since you already had or have one.

$18k-20k is a bit much
I am a licensed dealer and for the last 7 years of buying d3's I rarely see them going over 16k greenlight or "as is", 18k for a 09 with low miles Is average. But yea 18-20k is not worth it.

Where are you a dealer? I'll gladly buy from you because everything around me (new England USA) is, like I said, 20K for like 80k miles and that's for an 06-07. When you get into 08s, the dealers have them listed for like 23-25. I know they have to make some $$$.

Via Manheim pa/ove.com
I am located in Pennsylvania. You can ask your local import dealer to take you to your local off lease or Audi fleet sale to test drive. The average fee varies, usually 5-10% of the purchase price.

here are the actual prices ...
37K $31.6
51K $31.3
57K $31.8
61K $30.9
68K $30.3
As you can see, there are no $18K 2009 A8s to be had even at wholoesale.

Go on Manheim
If you go on Manheim and go in the search engine type Audi a8 then classify 2009, the market report at 94k is $23.8. That Is available at Manheim pa being sold by RM hollenshead. So you are right the 2009's are not 18k, that was a guesstimate. Overall I researched the 2006's because that was the year being referrenced.
