Default Looking at a 2004 A8 with Kumho 19" tires

It has 52,000 miles and would be paying $23K originally $76K has just about every option offered. I haven't driven the car yet but on the phone he said the only thing he wanted to warn me about is that at low speeds you can hear rumbling noise, which is why I put the tire type in the subject heading, because he had it checked by Bell Audi in NJ and that what they said the noise was. Does this sound like it is the cause or could it be the brakes or wheel bearing or something worse? Should I walk away?

Default My experience with Kuhmo tires (not on my Audi)

Is that they are indeed very noisy, lousy in the snow, and they flat-spot if the car sits for awhile. The flat spotting goes away once the tires warm up, but the first few miles are interesting, if feels like the tires are waaaay out of balance.

I have a set on my 2002 Tahoe, and I can't wait to replace them. My 94 Corvette came with them already on there from the previous owner and they were replaced immeadiately by me (with 50% tread left) as I could not stand them.

Default I would respectfully disagree. I've found Kumho's to be excellent in all respects.

Certainly not noisy. Overall, great price / performance.

I'd be cautious. The noise is likely to be something other than tires.

Default If it the tires, the hum/rumble will change pitch and volume

as you go over different types of road surfaces.

If its a bearing or the like, the sound will be virually the same regardless of surface type.

The wheel bearings are no big deal to R&R on these cars if that's what it is.
