MMI '04 A8
I recently bought an '04 A8 and love the vehicle. I contacted the dealer about upgrading the MMI and navigation DVD. They said if I upgrade the MMI I will not be able to use the TPMS unless I do a $1500 upgrade. Is this true? Is it worth it to upgrade MMI software? What benefits do you get?

I doubt that's true, but I'd love to hear from people who know
I just ordered the MMI CDROM to upgrade my MMI to 3360. My nav disc is Version 4, and I believe I need to upgrade to Version 5. Does it make sense to upgrade to something newer, like version 6, or even 2007?

hill0523 - Your dealer is full of it. TPMS works just fine on my 04 with 3360. Buy the disk and do the upgrade yourself. It's really not hard.
theanimala - if your MMI update is under warranty, you will get the updated NAV disk for free. If not, then by all means buy the most recent one (version 9, I think). Go to www.navteq.com to find out and order it.

What Igball says sounds right to me too.
If you have to pay and don't need the latest and greatest, last year's disks float around ebay for less. I think some version 8's are already popping up here and there. The Navteq site refers to map areas that were improved so you have a sense if the latest upgrade is relevant to where you live.

I have the latest software as well. 3360. But I still have the old 2004 disk. Can I just upgrade my disk to the latest and greatest or do I need to do something to the MMI software as well?

Nope, if you have 3360, you can buy the latest from Navteq. Just make sure you get the version for the 04s - It can be different that the disks for later models.

A Caution about EBay
Make sure the disk you buy is the one for the 04 model D3s. I know with version 7 there were two different disks, both labeled V7. One worked in the 04s, one didn't.

My SW is as follows:
D3-HU 6346 01.50 0316
HW:
D3-HU 6343 D2.0
How old is that version? Is it worth me to upgrade? What is the benefit of upgrading MMI?
Thanks for all your responses, I really appreciate it.

3360 with only 2004 disc?
The TSB instructions says it needs Version 5 of the Nav software to work. I ordered it anyway because it was cheap, and I can always resell it on Ebay in the future if I upgrade to another version. I doubt I will take advantage of any updated maps as I have all the coverage I need with my current Version 4, I just want to get rid of the lawyer screen.
