Hi. I'm trying to diagnose a problem with my MMI system, and was wondering if there is a procedure for this that you know of.

The car is an Audi A6 2006 Avant. I have replaced the MMI board already. All I see is the color MMI screen on start-up for about 15 seconds, then the screen goes blank. Also, I have no button or dial lights on the MMI manel. No radio function also.

There is, but this is the A8 forum, the answers you get may not be perfect for you. If you don't have the VCDS cable to do an optic loop scan, by an optic loop on Amazon for a few dollars and put it in place of each component in the optic loop. If your system comes back, minus the system you have the loop installed in place of, you have isolated the faulty component. It should be notated that these failures are usually from water getting someplace it shouldn't, so if you have had any spills relatively recently, focus on where that occurred first.

Try to understand the symptoms and troubleshoot smartly instead of blindly replacing good parts.

Thanks Louis! I agree completely with taking the broad intelligent view of the situation, but when I ordered a replacement MMI board for the center panel, which apparently had been doused several times with sweet coffee and perhaps soda. It seemed to be an excellent suspect for the failure, and I was unaware at the time of the fiber loop that could cause a failure at any point. Nor was I aware of the sunroof water flow issue, or the rear (Avant) wiper washer hose issue, both of which can apparently moisten other critical MMI components. This is exactly why I was asking about a diagnostic procedure, although I fully admit to chasing the low-hanging fruit here. At $41 for a new MMI board, it wasn't a costly leap. I have two loops on order, and will be slouthing for the real culprit next week.

Do you perchance have any suggestions for a great scan tool??
