Default 2010 A8L info on a part number

Hi Guys

I am looking for a part number for a d3 audi 2010 a8L. The part number is for the front textile/carpet floor mats. I did a search online and found couple part #s but i want to verify i have the correct one. Unfortunately the dealer ordered me the wrong ones ( they are for the D4). Anyone who knows or owns that model year car I think the part number should be listed on the label in the back of the mats.

Thank you
Dimitris

Thanks for the link and reply. I contacted them but they gave me the same part number i was given by my dealer which does not fit. So I went ahead and provided them with the part number I found online and hopefully that is the correct one.

Note that your car is a 2009 model year car. Model year 2010 = D4, that is why they ordered wrong mats!

The floor mats are available in 5 colors, the last 3 numbers tell the color code.

And note that the carpets are also available as RHD and LHD, according to which side your steering wheel is at.

The U.S. does model years a bit different, the 2011 model for us is the first of the D4's, just like 2004 was the first of the D3's for us. They were released in 2010 and 2003, but they have a weird way of assigning model year here.

That does not change the fact, that the D3 last model year was 2009, yes some were sold in europe too as late as august 2010 as new cars, but they are still technically 2009 model year cars, as you can see from the partsbase.org list, there are only 2003-2009 model years listed for D3. D4 2010-2016.

And to add, i worked at a MB importer in Finland, in 2009 we still shipped a few 2006 model MB E-class as NEW cars... well they were pre-facelift (facelift 06/2006->) so even a dumbass could see it was an old model. Same applies for special cars, like armoured, limos etc. I had a 2001 registered Volvo S90 on track when i bought mine in 2006. In fact, last model year was 1998 of that car (last produced cars were in may 1998), so it was first time registered over 3 years after leaving the factory!

It's a Euro/US difference. As far as the US market and dealers are concerned, there were 2010 model year 4.2 D3's. There were no D3 W12's or S8's for 2010 model year here; production stopped on those in April 2009 IIRC. The 2010 D3 4.2's also had a weird twist where they had the S8 trunk (boot) lid fitted to it with the built in spoiler lip. Here the first D4's were 2011 model years and it is expected to run to (a short) 2017 model year. Similarly, there are no 2003 model year D3's here, and there are 2003 D2's. It also comes up on board posts where sometimes we have to poke when someone talks about a "2003" or maybe a "2010" to see which geography they are from.

Net, here it is an arbitrary designation by the manufacturer and local market custom. A new design is now also often launched way before the typical September/October cutover that is more typical for model years. Thus you might find an intro in April or some such; for example Audi is already selling the "2016" A6 and A7 here based on the recent revisions it did. Then on the prior model year iteration they just do a short production run and briefly ship it. It may actually be ones built at the factory only before the summer shutdowns. Once in a while it cuts the other way for some regulatory or similar reason, like back on the C5 RS6. Smog rules were tightened here for model year "2004" that basically forced the forward converter up right at the manifold like you find on D3's; hence they ran a bunch of "2003's" and just got them in the country in time; those were sold as new for a lot of 2004 but with build stickers on the driver's door jamb saying they complied to 2003 rules.

Yes, but it still doesn't make them any other model year than the factory thinks they are. Factory lists only 2003-2009 model years for D3

My point is, that the cars have been manufactured on the same production line as ROW cars, they only ship them late to the US or sell them late there. D3 production stopped in may 2009, because the production line in Ingolstadt was converted to D4 production in summer 2009. Same thing with D2->D3 in summer 2002. This is a normal practice here in european car factories. When car model is upgraded, the old production line is taken apart under the summer and new model production started in august. It's just not sensible to have 2 production lines running at the same time, one manufacturing the new model and the other manufacturing the old model.

In finland we treat cars by their registration date, so some people try to sell their cars as 1-3 years newer than they came from the factory due to this, some sell their car as one model year older. We even have a saying here if a car is imported and registered new, that it's a "suomi-auto" = "finnish car". The only real finnish cars at the moment are MB A-class manufactured in Uusikaupunki (Nystad), all others are imported. I like to joke about that there's a factory in Finland that manufactures all cars (makes and models) to the Finnish market, and therefore they are "special". Even car dealers here are afraid of "imported" cars. I usually ask them "and where's the factory for the "finnish cars" "

Those boot/trunk lids with a spoiler have been available to any model from around 2007 onwards, it's a part of the "s-line" package.

So, the Finns have their weird way, we have ours. When I buy parts, I go to the Audi USA website and buy parts for the 2011 model year, despite my car being built in the first half of 2010. The people with last of the model have to be careful, since some places go off of the European model years.

Thank you Volvopentaman for the extensive info you provided and help. Are these part numbers same for USA and Europe?
