Default MMI wrong version

I have an '05 A8 D3 4.2.
I thought I was having MMI problems. So I bought one from Wolf Auto Parts (https://www.wolfautoparts.com/2004-2...le-193860.html). It didn't immediately make any difference because the buttons on the console didn't work. So I just left it.

Magically today the buttons work. I noticed some menu options missing. So I took a look at the software version thinking it might just need to be upgraded or something.

It says HW/SW C6
Now i have questions and I am hoping this community can help.

1) Am I going to have to go back to the earlier MMI?
2) Should this work?
3) Can I flash/upgrade to proper D3 SW?

I am grateful for any insight.

Thanks,
Chris

Give it a few days and see if those options come back. Sometimes, they do. This MMI module was manufactured in May 2004, and is version 0750, a very early version of MMI software - in fact, the software on this unit may never have been updated since it was delivered with the original vehicle. To upgrade, you would need to go in two steps, first from 0750 to 3360 and then from 3360 to 4610. 4610 was the last US release Audi made for MMI 2G. There are many posts on this topic, search this forum and do some research before you decide to do the upgrade. Ideally you should use a battery charger when you do it, because the upgrade takes a few hours and you don't want your battery to drain too far while you are doing the upgrade - you might brick one of your modules. Audi published a document with instructions on how to do it. The upgrade itself comes on multiple CDs and is available from Audi, P/N 4F0 998 961. Do you know what version the other MMI unit was?

I'm also guessing your car has the original OnStar rather than Bluetooth?

You'd be in component protection mode, audio muted. At least that's what happened to me.

Dealer re-coded and I lost the usual menus. Went back and they got that sorted.
