Hey guys, I am stuck on the side of the road in my 2005 a8 w12. I tool off from a stop and the engine died and will not restart. Scanned with carista and got cylinder injector circuit low for all 12 cylinders. 12 codes. Is there a common wire fuse or something that would make me lose power to all injectors?
I don' work with Carista, but just a general educated guess would be fuel pump. Injectors themselves are presumably powered straight through from ECUs and would need very little separate power. Higher draw pumps should have a relay and fuse set up; I never had to deal with fuel system on my W12 or older 4.2 so can only speak in general troubleshooting terms. though. There are two fuel pumps on a D3 port injected 4.2 or W12, both back in the tank. One is more a transfer pump, while the other is primary. Of course, there is the more basic out of gas question too. Have you checked that, and gauge? If you were on last part of tank, that could be that second transfer pump and in that case getting more fuel in tank might help. The tank is called a "saddle" design because it straddles the driveshaft and thus has two distinct low areas the pumps need to deal with, and why it can starve even with part of a tank if the transfer pump doesn't move fuel across. Counterproductive to fill to brim though if you will change pump(s), where having tank with less gas can make job easier.
More generally search on old posts about D3 fuel pump symptoms, whether older 4.2 or W12. Skip the S8 and later FSI 4.2 posts where there are also main high pressure fuel pumps that make them yet more complicated to diagnose.

thanks for the reply! I have vagcom at home but I find it odd to give circuit voltage low for all 12 injectors since it uses 2 ecms. Has to be a wire or ground????

Don't assume strictly one ECU per 6 cylinders. The ECU's are split by function in some cases, not cylinders. Thus ECU 1 owns the fuel pump relay, while ECU 2 owns misfire detection as two examples. Just got the car off the tow truck. I did hear the fuel pump prime and sound somewhat normal. Here is the VAG auto scan. Where should I dive into?

Got Vagcam and alldata, pointed to fuse 29 in the right fuse panel and found it blown. Replaced the fuse and the car runs fine now. Should I be worried about why it blew? I am planning to drive 2500 miles tomorrow out of town for a week
Fuse 29 does say fuel injectors from my owner's manual, but not anything I ever ran across. You may have to look at wiring diagrams to try to narrow it down. As I mentioned the W12 schematic says the power comes from the fuel pump relay, so not sure how that relates. That diagram does seem to say the power is all in common across the injectors, so an issue anywhere in the wiring on the power side could take all of them out together--or a fuse like that as you ran into.
You would not be able to see the injector wiring unless you take the whole upper manifold assembly off. Not that hard to do, but it takes a few hours and you should have a riser gasket for where it bolts up. But, a physical wiring issue could be on the way to the injectors too, like where you see the huge harness coming through the firewall on the passenger side, or the ECU's under the plenum. I don't recall anyone ever posting on this, so sort of needle in haystack. Do a visual of the wiring like back of motor near where heater hoses go through firewall, and remove the plastic plenum covers and look at ECU's and wiring there. You are unlikely to see much, but could be corner cases like rodent damage, obvious missing insulation or burns, etc. Look especially for any signs of water in plenum area, meaning the drains are clogged with debris. Good idea to blow that area out with an air hose and covers off anyway.
Other practical suggestions meantime. Since you have a full scan, now clear all modules. But, I sense maybe you already did? The scan shows tons of codes, many date stamped today. I noticed a few are older as I skimmed, but seemingly many or even most were today. Almost all current date codes can be a sign of a recent clear, hence why I ask. Also, did you wear battery down trying to start it?--lots of codes are power related even though in a handful of places listing voltages that I noticed it didn't seem seriously low in a difficult start situation. But you hit a quiesscent stage 6 code, which means the power management system reported at some point late on you basically pegged it and electrical system was on bare bones life support. See module 61--five times actually per the count, but I suppose that could be as close together as 5 turns of the key. As a nuance, by stage 6 it probably was turns of the key, since keyless start should drop out as it gets desperate. The first few stages are common in many D3 scans as they build up codes over time, but when it gets down to bone like that you want to understand why. With it now running, get your battery charged up. After that, scan it again and see what you get. Presumably the ECU injector short ones will resolve--if fuse is holding. If you show other shorts in any areas where wiring is in common, it might provide some clue. Another possibility as a long shot is you are having the not uncommon generally flaky electrical system stuff that can happen with D3's as a battery heads south. The deep in the red power management codes may be pointers too. Do you know age of battery? Did it just get worn down today cranking, cycling ignition, etc. or has it shown other signs of being tired recently? Before starting a 2500 mile trip, obviously I would want a dependable battery in any case.
