Default New SWB Loaner

I dropped my '04 A8L off at the dealer for its 35K service. Expecting the dealer normal A4 loaner vehicle, I was very pleasantly surprised, shocked even, when they provided a new (388 miles) A8 SWB as a loaner.

That it has a sweet ride is no shock, but I am very pleased with the handling differences compared with long wheelbase. Tighter and crisper lane changes sums up the feeling. Brings back memories of my beloved '01 A6 2.7T.

I realize that the 35K miles on my tires has a material affect on the handling, so some of the handling differences are probably tire wear.

My lease is up in about 14 months... what oh what should I do, I wonder ;-)

Did your loaner have 19" wheels? vs the 18"s you drive on now?

Default All A8 loaners have 18" wheels.

They are "base" models.

Default No, the loaner also has the 18's with all-season tires. That what works best here in

...New England, unless there is an 19" wheel/all-season tire option avaiable from the factory (I haven't kept up).

Just think how great the 2006 SWB handling would be with 19". Confirms all previous facts...

I'm told that with the S8 intro, Audi will discontinue the SWB in the US. True?

my swb handles beautifully. A big surprise for me...even coming from a former tuned s4 owner!
