Default No Beep or Chirp when activating alarm

I can swear that my car used to "chirp" when I activated the alarm--it no longer does so. Doors lock, flashers blink, but no audible chirp... I'm stumped. I tried going through the MMI, to no avail... so... is this another "must have VCDS" thing--or something else?

Thanks!

VCDS is the best troubleshooting aid. That said, if you search the forum, you will find your answer. Basically, the internal batteries in the alarm module have failed, and leaked damaging the circuit board.

So, I need to replace the module and not just the batteries?

01134 - Alarm Horn (H12)
004 - No Signal/Communication

This is what I have now. I hate alarms anyway, they are so stupid. Nobody cares when they are whining, unnecessary noise and in my experience never thwarted a break-in.

Yet to live with a real PITA. Example - I'm in the pool middle of a workout, 10x50's on 50s, 10s rest and the lifeguard says "Is that your Silver Audi..the lights are flashing"

I say "thanks, if you see flames let me know, I'll move it so we can watch it burn to the ground"

Then I keep swimmin'

You can try taking it apart. You might get lucky and not have any damage.

Chirp can be turned on and off by VCDS, but it is most likely dead module battery. I've opened and repaired it just to come to a conclusion that it is waste of time. Buy a new one.

+1. I tried replacing batteries only in mine, installing an outboard box with rechargeables....but in the end I just threw it away and bought a new alarm. Now all works fine. Agree with mishar, not worth time time or effort to try to repair. You can find a new one online for about $200.

Have Dremel or similar tool handy to open up the ultrasonic welded module case.

I used my bandsaw to make quick work of that ABS case.

Anyway the batteries of course are dumping their contents, and the board had black gunk on the trails. I cleaned that up, board trails look OK, but doesn't work. Might have attacked some of the components in the DC power network maze.

Although it's not the Audi-way, I think I will have to go ahead and concede defeat .

From the various blogs, I gather this part # is a working/supercede 8L0951605A - so placed an offer on EBAY.
