No Beep or Chirp when activating alarm

Alarm module from eBay is very similar to the one that just died on you. Even if a donor is 2010 (not likely) it has 6 years old batteries, plus months, if not years, on a shelf waiting for a buyer. Only way is to buy a new one.

No it isn't - it's the Generation or rev II of the Aussie built part. It seems the batteries are shrink-wrapped in those so they don't puke all over the place.
Most battery packs these days have that tough wrap around them.
I'll be sure to report back to the peanut gallery in any case.

Installed the $35 ebay part, works great. One of the functions of the battery is to sound the alarm if you pull the plug on the horn, when the car is locked :P

And, ahem, where exactly might this part be found in my car ?

If you look at the pix there on twitter, under the plastic cowling, base of windshield- passenger side (you can see the wiper bottle in the photo)
Mine was a used part, but there is an updated part# from the original D3 days, so that is the one I got.
It has a really nice subtle chirp to it, when locking. I like that.

...and, Not So Strange. My "hood open" (bonnet, for those of you on other continents) warning came back on, and my alarm stopped chirping again. So, temporarily disabled the passenger side connector (that side of the hood is "loose") and presto--no more warning light, and my alarm chirps again. Now I have to figure out how to get the latch to work correctly, as it is evident that the sensor is located at the latches.
