The rest of the story..
My son, Ballykid is moving to Reno to start his career in the Gaming industry (imagine this, with slot machines) upon graduation in May. He accepted an offer and signed on the dotted line. He has his TT that he loves and its going out there. His GF is going with him and while she likes driving my '01 Beetle around here, it is probably not up for a cross-country move.

She bought an '04 A8L that is virtually identical to mine. Fewer miles (188,000) and this one has the power trunk which mine does not. Same color....

The funny thing is that I saw this car at a Volvo dealer about six years ago near my work (32 miles away from my home) in the used car lot. It was easy to recognize by the aftermarket 18" wheels. Then I would see the car near my home being driven several times. Turns out a real estate agent bought it as I then noticed it parked at a office all the time. Then did not see it anymore but it turns out a used car dealer in an industrial park had it and sold it to the dad of a co-worker of Ballykid's. His co-worker asked Ballykid to inspect the car before they bought it. Fast-forward three years and the co-worker asked if he'd be interested in it as his dad wasn't driving it anymore as the maintenance & upkeep was prohibitive for him.....

It has not been maintained that well and needs some TLC. Fortunately, Ballykid is somewhat knowledgeable and should get it ready for the trek out West on Interstate 80.

Issues include no heat (Control head is acting up for both cabin heat and you can't turn on the driver's heated seat). Probably no AC as VCDS shows low pressure switch activated. Needs pads & Rotors all around. WABCO compressor putting out low output. A headlight not working due to a bad ballast. Front grill missing from a parking lot incident (Radiator was replaced) and there is some fascia damage but it passes the 20' test.

He put in a new super-duper North Star X2 AGM Deep-cycle and starting battery (The kind with the brass posts) to get it started and drive it here from 120 miles away.

We'll keep you posted....

Based on the problems descriptions and mileage, they probably paid your guy to take it off their hands haha

Powertrain is excellent and interior is very good.

Basically, my son's GF bought it for the cost of an air strut. They have ordered aboot $1k in parts so far. Much more to come.

Tires, while not for Winter driving have excellent tread. Some far East crap brand though.

Also note that he did not post the full VCDS scan which has at least two dozen red font items. This is after clearing them first and driving it around and scanning again. He will get his arms around the many related faults and then work on each system individually....

Well, given he can handle the work, the car may well have been a bargain by the time he's done with it! Even if he ends up with $2000 into it with parts, he'll still be doing well considering what the car offers.

He's done quite a bit of work so far. Heater control valve replaced, One temp control encoder assembly replaced. New brake pads. an ABS sensor replaced, Parking brake stepper motor cleaned and lubed, Valve cover gaskets and PCV valve replaced, Rear vanity mirror clips replaced.

Will be doing the timing belt /water pump/thermostat and all the rollers/idlers etc. before the move.

And now the dreaded oil cooler pipe has sprung a leak so the aluminum replacement is on order and will get replaced with the timing belt.

Still has the dash lights on the long bar out along with the arm rest lights. Have to find the shorted wires.

When changing brake fluid my pressure bleeder bit the dust. A Sanp-On (Blue Point) to boot.

It rides nice on smooth roads but some bushings need replacement so they are on the way too.

More of the saga later.
