2006 A8L: My MMI parking assist won't show the graphic. I hear it beep when backing sometimes, but don't see the graphic. It always used to work (beep and graphic)

Also my right mirror will swing down to "look" at curb etc, but when I take it out of reverse, the mirror will not come back up. If I switch the mirror position, it comes up.

Could the two issues relating to the shift lever be related? (a switch or something?)

A shot in the dark here Jim, did you turn off the graphical display by mistake?

No. that was the first thing I checked. Right now, when I put it in reverse, the graphic pops up for a second, then dissappears. Sometimes it doesn't even beep. The only consistent is when I back out of my garage, it beeps. After I'm past he door threshold, it doesn't beep anymore. It used to display the graphic until I was down the drive, out on my street and moving forward in drive.

Have you checked the front to see if those sensors and that display works? Thus, push the parking sensor dashboard button in D and see if it kicks in for front. Helps isolate whole system issue vs. something narrower, plus of course would help validate or dismiss the shift lever/mirror switch, etc. ideas.

Have you scanned system with VCDS? The most common issue is probably a bad sensor.
