I took the connector apart and cleaned it. Same error. I performed a parking brake function test and now have a rear brake pads worn fault.

I followed the road tech instructions to change pad thickness, but the parking brake will not cycle (basic settings-04, group 10) because there is a fault.

battery charger is connected.

I have never used the battery charger. . Ignition on close pads, set pad thickness, clear codes ignition off the brakes would recalibrate.

It is a good idea to use the battery charger when servicing the rear brakes.

I would put on a set of pads. Wagner Thermoquiet is what I buy. $31 from Amazon
Amazon Amazon

Follow the instructions in this video to the letter. Failure to do so can result in module failure which can turn a $31 job into a multi hundred job in a hurry.

Default Another EPB Problem

I am changing the rear brake pads on my 2009 A8L, and cannot get 2 codes to clear. I have the 2596 rear brake pads worn and a 2438 left parking brake motor hall sensor [004 – no signal/communication mil on]. I can hear/see both motors engage on the function test. I have followed the procedure in the Ross-Tech video, and also have performed adaption before closing the brakes as suggested in an earlier thread. I use a battery charger and cycle the ignition at the appropriate times. The codes will not clear, and it has been a couple of months since I changed the pads.

The one quirky thing I see is that when I open the pads, a warning chime sounds and the parking brake warning light flashes. I cannot close the epb with the switch. I input 12 in the adaption, and the test reads 12. When I turn the ignition back on and close the pads, I can kill the flashing warning light with the switch. The epb will calibrate, and it performs the function test. However, the codes will not clear. When I do the whole process over, I am back to 3 as an initial value in adaption. I have cleaned the left connector, and the wiring appears fine.

I would appreciate any suggestions to clear these codes.

Verify all wiring for continuity from the parking brake motor to the control module. If good, I'd. Consider swapping out motors between sides temporarily. Just connect electrically and see if the code changes to the other side. If it does, replace the bad motor assembly. Otherwise, your control module is likely at fault.

I've noticed while repairing mine that this code sticks after the motor's been disconnected for a while. You should start with a basic function test and THEN clear code, exit module.
I had to use a combinaison of retracting pads, then closing and basic function test to finally get rid of the code after replacing/splicing the harness.

Was totally worth fixing to have a 539 000km car with no malfunction lights beeping at me
