Has anyone heard of their 04 D3 not being wired for phone even though it has the base in the center console???

Yes. Sometimes it needs to be activated through the MMI.

I took my d3 over to the dealer to troubleshoot why my cradle was not working(being recognized).... they came back and told me that my car is not wired for the cradle????? they said that even though it has the base in the center console, it doesn't have any wires for the phone feature to be recognized.. that strikes me kind of odd.

Would a Bluetooth connection be adequate for you? If it is, from mid year 2005 - post On-Star - then you may be in luck. I had a 2005 with a VIN ending in 0162XX that I used in conjunction with a Motorola Razr. It worked quite well.

I would like to use a bluetooth rather than the Phone that fits the cradle. Do you want to get rid of your Bluetooth?

If it is an 04 dont forget that you need to have the "B" cradle and the BT puck inorder for any function with current BT phones. No one will activate the V60 phones anymore.
