Default Potential bad air ride compressor ?

2009 A8 W12.
The other day I got in the car and the yellow suspension light was on as was the green lowering light. I drove the car home and pulled codes. Ended up replacing the fuse and relay per what the codes said. Started the car and heard the compressor kick on a raise the car up to the comfort setting. Cool, fixed it. Started it this morning and set it back to dynamic mode and within 5 minutes I hear a faint pop and the yellow light is back on. I assume the faint pop was the fuse blowing again because I no longer hear the compressor. The compressor sounded a bit “gravelly”, kind of like small, soft pebbles in a washing machine. I am assuming the compressor has essentiall died and the fuse blew from its electrical death. Does that sound about right to you all? If my research is correct the W12 cars use a different compressor that the 4.2 cars, am I correct?

I think all of the compressors are the same.

W12 and W10 have different part numbers.
4.2: 4E0616007D (Older B)
W12/V10
4E0616007E (older A, C)

No idea if they are the same or different.

May have an issue with the magnets separating internal and may need to be repaired with JB weld. There are also rebuild kits you could try for the piston and gasket. Bagpipingandy

I ordered the kit from bagpipingandy and confirmed with him it would work on the w12 compressor. My biggest current problem is removing the headlight to get to the compressor. Does the front bumper have to come off to get it out? It,Ives but seems to hang up, preventing its removal.

I took my headlight lens out without taking the bumper off, took a bit of maneuvering but it is doable

Headlight or Fog light? You should not need to remove the headlight to get to the rear bolts on the compressor mount. Id remove the fog light, front wheelhouse liner and undertray

I had the almost exact same problem. I thought that the low price of the new compressor in proportion to the work that needs to be done made if fixing the old one made it an easy choice. If you need a new compressor I can recomment getting it from Spezialist für Luftfederung KFZ Auto SUV Transporter Ersatzteile airmatic pneumatisches Federsystem,Audi A6 A8 Q7 Mercedes airmatic W211 W220 W221 W215 W216 W218 W251 W164 W166 X164 X166 W230 W906 W638 W639 Porsche Cayenne Panamera Tesla Land Rover I . Part: 4E0616007E

I had it fitted at a local shop. I have a 2006 W12. Works fine now!
