Question about door lock latches
Hello.
I have a problem with my central locking where the rear doors sometimes remain unlcoked when I lock the car despite the front doors being locked and the alarm system being activated.
A shop told me that it's the rear lock hatches that are causing the problem so I've decided to switch them out. Which brings me to my question; does it make any difference if my car is keyless? As I've seen slight differences in part ID's.
Example; 4E0 - 839 015 / 4E0 - 839 - 015 A/ 4E0 - 839 - 015 B
Thanks in advance.

Thank you for your input Rich, but I believe that soft close and keyless are two different things. Soft close is when the door gets sucked in without you having to slam it to shut it, while the keyless system is when you can open a locked car by just putting your hand close to the door handle as long as the key is in your pocket or close proximity.

Both of my cars have keyless so I have no idea if the latch is different or not. The best way to find out is to take the car to your local dealer and ask what the part number is. They will look it up by VIN number and will be able to tell you.
Having said that, in general, when the suffix letter changes, it means that there were changes made to the latch but that the basic latch function is the same. The original might not have a suffix, but later versions, usually with improverments, will have a suffix of A, B, etc. I believe in your case, that if your order the plain number without suffix from Audi, you will get suffix B or C.
I would make sure that it is the latch before spending money on a latch. Make sure the child safety stuff is set correctly, that the solenoid is energizing, etc before condemning the latch. I have heard and seen a single latch fail, but not two at the same time. I would be more inclined to suspect a broken wire, etc if both failed at the same time.
Do the rear doors lock when pressing the switch on the inside of the driver's door? Did one door fail first or did both fail at the same time?
Do you see any VCDS codes?
