Rear brake linings

Rear brake linings
OK, I picked up my car yesterday after having some warranty work completed for the Bose, and the service advisor told me that I needed to get the rear brakes changed as they had less than 3000 miles of use left in them.
Now call me stupid, but the car has only covered 13000 miles in total, mostly on motorways. They said they have checked for any sticking parts etc but all is well.
I've told them that I owuld imagine they are covered on warranty, but apparently not, so, I'll take it up with Audi UK customer services.
Anybody else had dificulties with rear brake lining wear ?
