Redesigned A8/A8L (D4) to the U.S.--Any news/timing?
The lease on my '05 A8L runs out this summer and I'll likely get into another one but want to time the next lease term to get into the redesigned D4 version (or extend the lease on the car I now have). My dealer says it's coming to the U.S. as a 2009 M.Y. car meaning fall of '08 arrival. Has anyone out there seen or heard the same information? Any information is appreciated, especially if you can provide some links to it. Seems that if it were to arrive next year, there'd be some more information available or even spy photos out there...

That car's not going to arrive for several years.
The D2 existed from 1994 to 2003. You do the math on the next one. 2010, 2011? My guess is they've only just really started development ...
The pressure is on to constantly have new things coming out, but I truly wouldn't expect any miracles. I'm thinking Mercedes learned that the hard way when they had to grab back to older technologies. Ouch. Not to mention the poor quality. It takes time to make magic.

As a supplier to the automotive industry, I can tell you that work on the next generation of a vehicle platform begins shortly after the launch of the "new" vehicle. The D4 is most likely going through extensive environmental testing or is just about ready to be tested. Audi is reducing the time to come out with new versions of their platforms and I'd like to think they've learned from M-B's screwups. My guess is the U.S. will see the D4 in 2009 as a 2010 model.

According to carpoint : D2 = 1997 to 2003. D3 = 2004 to present.
That's a 7 year life cycle for the D2 (1997 through 2003) and 4 years and counting for the D3 (2004 through 2007).

MSN Autos (when did they rename carpoint to MSN Autos, or am I that far behind the times?)
