Default Self dimming mirror

I think the mirror on my 07 is broken. The dealer says that it is performing to spec and that the sunpass transponder mounted in front of and off to the side of the mirror is affecting it's ability to dim. I have removed the transponder and I can't see a difference. Does anyone know of an objective test for the self dimming function?
Thanx

Default Re: try dimming the "mood" lighting in the car through the MMI. I think background lighting

Turn the lighting in the MMI to "Highway" that works for me. I have the Q7 and it appears that the side mirrors in the Q7 seem to work better - I notice the coating on the Q7. On the A8 - the side mirrors are so small - sometimes I question them myself.

The Q7 also has a on-off light on it..

Default I know what the problem is.

It has been annoying ever since i got my 06 A8, i have never complained about it.

Simple, if you have the background lighting profile on, with the interior lights on, you know the one above your head, or if they are even lit slightly, then the rearview mirror dimmimg feature will not work. You have to turn off those overhead lights, then the dimming feature will work.

Actually you only have to turn off the front overhead lights and then the dimming feature will work, remember the side view mirrors only dim when the rearview mirror is dim.

I think this was a oversight on audi's part , but they will be no fix since i dont think that anyone complains about the problem. I mean what good is a lighting profile if at night you have to turn it off.

Default It's the lighting setting in MMI

I had the same problem. I think I had it on "city" or something else. When I switced to "highway" it works fine. Blame it on an overabundance of settings and choices.

Default a few tips:

like ittazoc said, no self dimming mode in city mode. HOWEVER, if you want city mode, like i do, you can press the overhead console button with the door symbol and orange led light, until the light goes OFF. somehow, the mirror will dim when you do this.

if it doesnt work, highway mode is the next best option.
