Default Sensor for steering wheel heater

Does anyone know how to get to the steering wheel heater sensor. Looks like mine is gone for A8L '04 as my wheel stays hot all the time

Default I would unplug the power to it

You could pull the airbag (two screws on the back of the wheel) and then pull the connector.

You most likely have a bad thermostat or temperature sensor. If you don't disconnect the 12 VDC power to the heater, it could start a fire.

If you want, I can look it up for you. On the D2, it's unswitched 12 VDC power for the heat, then there is a micro controller in the steering wheel that turns it on/off. It has a thermostat embedded in the leather also.

Default Looked it up

If you pull the airbag....there will be connectors. The power for the heat (this is what you want to disconnect) is pins 13 and 14....should have a connector going to it.

There is a picture with the steering wheel removed....if it's the same as the D2, it's the connector that has a 45 degree angle on it...you'll know it when you see it....it's a two pin connector, +12VDC and ground.

It's the one to the left of "connector not used", it's the same shape as that. Just disconnect it. It most likely will have a brown (ground) and other color wire. That will prevent power from getting to the heating element. See how the wires connected to it go out to the circle portion of the wheel? It's going to the heating element.

Default Re: Looked it up

Thank!!! Its started working now but I suspect its a faulty sensor that triggers the heater. If it happens again I'll check using your pics.
