Does a VCDS scan reveal anything about the difficulty with starting? Was the 87 you used the same brand as the 93 and from the same gas station?
I'm extremely skeptical that the fuel octane was the issue and not just a coincidence with something else. You should put 93 back in to see if the problem reoccurs. If it does then you have a problem that definitely needs to be investigated further. Maybe something up with the knock control system which is a BAAAD thing.

I need to try regular in mine
Thats not the facts .....car was cranked multiple times everyday during the 2 weeks or so I used 93 octane on 2 separate fill ups( tank a week average).
When the 2nd tank of 93 was down to 1/4 tank( about 12 days after issue fill up) i returned to 87 and issue went immediately away.
I Agree it all makes no sense but that exactly what has happened. The issue has disappeared when i returned to 87.

But I believe what comes out of the pump is not always what it is labeled. There may be a blend of 87, 89, and 93 in many pumps.

If a few cents per gallon makes a difference you may consider a less thirsty car (may be we all should). As said many times, same drive would burn more regular than premium. No savings. Just slowly killing your engine.

In most places outside of the US they only use RON (Research Octane Number) which is always a higher number then MON (Motor Octane Number).
In the US they use an equation of RON+MON/2, so that's why Octane numbers are much lower in the US then Europe or OZ. Normally 94 octane in the US (If you remember when Sunoco used to sell it) = 100 Octane in Europe or places where RON is the only thing they use to rate fuel.

I agree but
One thing I notice is there seems to be a tanker refueling the stations a lot recently. I used to never stop if it looked they were filling the tanks. Today there seems to be a truck at every station.
