Staggered rims?

a few thoughts...
IMHO staggered rims can work as long as you use the same size tires( 255 to 295's will fit depending on offset and additional mods).
However can you clarify if you mean wider rims for the rear/ or wider offset for the rear ???
Staggered widths if within an inch (ie: 20 x 9 front 20 x 10 rear ) will have minimal affect positive or negative, assuming the offsets are correct and you're running the same size tires. I have a set of HRE's like this.
The only gain you might get from using staggered offsets is to balance the narrower rear track up ( roughly 15mm a side). at 9/10's driving in might encourage more understeer but for everyday driving it's likely un-noticable and it does tangibly improve the appearance of the car I think. my other set of HRE's are built this way - same width but 12mm more offset for the rears.
What year is your car and what rims /tires are you considering ? ( brand/width /offset etc...)

Thanx covert for the feedback, I was asking only because i also have a bmw with the staggered set and I love the way it handles. So i was thinking of trying a staggered set on my 04 a8l, or maybe just get all 20x9? what do you think?

The BMW handles the way it does because it's a BMW
It would handle even better with the same size tires front and rear. In fact, many M3 owners replace the undersized front wheel and tire combo with one similar to the back wheel/tire combo for improved handling balance.
Increasing the width of the rear tires is unlikely to help your A8's handling. I think your idea of putting 20x9 all the way round is a good idea.

I'd agree with Rad. Joe.... 20 x 9 or even 9.5 all the way around.
I played with several sets of rims and multiple sets of spacers and settled on the following as the optimal setup for my D3 - based on running either a 295/30/20 or an upcoming 285/35/20 ( waiting for the Conti 3 in this size to become available).
Front 20 x 9.5 Et 32
rear 20 x 9.5 Et 24
this allows for full travel even lowered with VAG-Com and an extra 10mm from the "links", and no rubbing on full wheel turning etc...
and FWIW as nice a car as the A8 is it'll never have the "feel" of the BMW....it does handle turns quit nicely, just with a different touch and blend of feedback. A set of S8 swaybars will help flatten it however if that's an issue to you - especially if your car non-sport to start.

Thanx alot guys for the feedback. I think i've narrowed it down to 20x9.5 all around with 295's with et32's and 24's with the sway bar,hopefully this will improve the handling and stability of the ride if not just I'll just light the Audi on fire and just drive my BMW.....lol....j/k, I love my D3. thanx again guys.
