Went to the golf course early, while walking to the pro shop, couldn't help noticing the car and the back ground, seldom washed or detailed...

No, it's the spring I put to raise the trunk with the weak motor. Instead of shell out $500 for a new motor. If I want the look, I'll lose the trunk. I don't really care about the look... I like practicality and it serves me well, my wife agrees.

Definitely classical beauty. I had never owned an Audi previously but had always admired the D2 and especially D3's lines for many years. I drove Mercedes, BMW, but the Audi still had more of the 'timeless beauty' to it. There just weren't many going on the used market at local dealers over the years, so I had never run across one.
Then back in January the car dealership I can see from my kitchen window drove an A8L in and I was over there within an hour inquirying.. test-drove it, took it to 155, and bought it after an inspection. A beautiful vehicle (and I lucked out and mine had the 'Autobahnd' protective treatment on it) and for 14 years old it is remarkably quiet on the gorgeous interior.
You can also easily tell the older A8s from the newer; going down the road, the newer A series looks much too similar in my opinion - not to mention they don't have that 'timeless' appeal to them. I'm sure the interior and the mechanics are completely geeked out from car to car, but for the look-factor, I'm happy with the D3. The D2 has held up very well too.
Also regarding the trunk, mine still works (once I clean up all the gunk around the hinges) to auto-open; I saw your posts on installing the buffer / spring a while back. Creative, but it does look a bit like the trunk is open.

The D3 chassis is just perfect IMO. Especially in non L version. The proportions are just right, especially the rear 3/4 area.
We get so many looks in the S8. Very sleek and clean looking vehicle. There is a nice d3 A8L i see on my drive to/from work sometimes, I can always easily pick it out in the crowd.

Funny you should mention this. Downtown Chicago today, I was waiting to cross the road and a very nice looking newer shape black A4 or A6 was rolling slowly by with RS style 5-spoke blade wheels. Very smart I thought, then noticed a 4.0T badge on the back and thought, wait that’s weird. A4 or A6 4.0T? Then noticed the A8L badge on the other side. It was a D4. It’s a shame they’re so easily mistaken for lesser models when not really looking closely. D3 is unmistakable as the big boy!

Not a white one by any chance? I'm in SE Mi. I see an A8 from time to time and actually saw another white one just like mine a few weeks ago.
