Default tire size & speed

Just picked up possibly the only recent A8 in Anchorage. It was fitted with 17 inch Pirelli snows & I am sure that the speedo is reading inaccurately high. I realize the tire circumfrence is smaller than the standard 19's so the tire will turn more revolutions in a mile but I would think that something other than wheel turns would measure speed. Am I wrong?
And this is too much for me to extrapolate tonight but could the mileage also be inaccurate ? Or is a country mile a country mile? Thanks.

17" wheels and tires have the same circumference as the 19" set up. Difference is made up in sidewall height. 19" has thinner sidewall height.

The speedos on these cars read 3-4 MPH faster than the actual speed.

Default Analog speedo reads higher than the actual speed signal...

Odometer will be within 1% accuracy.

17" rims were actually "stock" on 04s and 05s

Default Miles and speed both based on revolutions per mile. They will both read high.

There is a nifty tire size calculator which will give you all the answers. Enjoy... :-)

The speedo is optimistic on the stock tires but the Odo is accurate. Smaller od tires than stock will mess up the Odo too.

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalcold.html</a
