I ordered my generic TPMS for a shop called TPMS 24/7...TMPS247.com, I'm sure there are other's.
The model I got was IM3106 for my 2009 A8L, but they may advise you on others.
I got them for my winter wheel, and had them installed when my winter tires were mounted....and they have been working well for 2 years. I can't tell the difference between these and the OEM Beru/Huffs in terms of functionality. They display temp, and pressure, just like the originals.
Anyway, at least you have the support of a real store if something does not work, or you need instructions.
Yes, with generics being so cheap, i would not take a chance with dissecting out a battery... replacing.. and praying it works after you have paid to have tires mounted.
As for the website I mentioned, it worked out for me. I do remember it taking a bit of time to get a hold of someone on the phone, but I did talk to someone.
The address on their website is a P.O. Box, which is a bit concerning, but in any case, give them a call and see how the interaction goes.
