Transmission noise AGAIN....really tired of this crap.
Car is wonderful i have to say...but this noise when u downshift from 5 to 3, or 6 to 3 just never seems to go away! oil change, tcm upgrade no hopes still. its like some hooting noise.
I definitely want a whole new transmission now, under warranty from the installation date, its just not fair that i get a defective transmission since 10000 km. car has 40000km now. Any of you guys got thoughts on whats going on??

no. same tranny since purchasae, had good talk with tech today---> awesome guy BTW
told me not to worry bout the hooting noise, advice was plain and simple. Transmission is not going to give up on u etc etc. Torque converter just seems to have some trouble engaging the gears underload(up inclines is when the noise happens). Tranny itself is fine.
He told me, give the tranny hell for now, its still in very good conition apart from the noise. Near the 100000km mark, or before warranty expires, hey presto and a new tranny will be installed

Re: same tranny noise
My 2004 V8 Phaeton six speed made a sound like a seal barking or an owl hooting on downshifts while accelerating especially when going up hill. I could easily produce this noise any time I wanted to on a 6-3 or 5-3 downshift and it went on this way for a year.
Eventually I noticed a slip and grab developing on the 1-2 shift under medium acceleration. It got worse quickly. Finally they determined I had burned transmission fluid and they replaced the transmission at 35,000 miles. I think you have the same problem.

wow thats exactly what i have!
i notice the slip or slight jerk occurs when its light to med accleration occasinaly when engaging 3rd gear ALWAYS. its does happen once or twice in my trips but you know its there.
funny thing is, transmission fluid has been changed 4 times! tcm upgrade too! but nevermind, ill "beat up" this trans for now, and near the 100 000km extendend warranty mark, i want a new tranny
by the way how is your driving habit like? city driving mostly? bumpy roads? stop and go? occasional throttle mashing? just curious to see if there is a pattern.
