Power Trunk Lower Latch Issue
Hello all,
I have a small issue with my power trunk. Basically, I have replaced the lifting motor, and the motor that latches on the is fully functional and has also been replaced in the last 2 years.
The lower latch built into the body of the car has stopped pulling the trunk down that few mm to lock. The lid picks up the latch and locks onto it, but it doesn't pull down anymore.
The motor seems to work and I can hear it (its behind the battery not above it) but the cable doesn't pull the latch at all anymore.
Can this motor be rebuilt? or does it need a fuse pulled? VCDS? I do not have VCDS so I am hesitant to remove the battery to get at this motor.
Thanks for any help
Mike

I don't know of anyone who has rebuild that motor. On the other hand I think there is a small spring on the lower latch that breaks that causes the symptom you have. Do a search on the lower latch spring and you will find some usefull info.

I have checked that spring and it is all good. I think the motor is just stuffed.

As I suspected, the cable had snapped on this motor. As it was one part, I had to completely disassemble it. However for a temp fix I have rebuilt the cable. Once back together, the motor seemed to work and the bootlid sucked down properly. I will still have to get a replacement however as I am obviously unhappy with temp fixes. Just happy my boot is locked once again. Please lubricate that latch people. It will prevent this issue!

Can be a battery flakiness issue too
My trunk latching (the last part of it) started to flake as my battery was in its final throes heading south. If you have any battery starting/charge holding issues, they may be connected. Post battery change, trunk went right back to latching fully just fine and reliably. Treat your trunk gently in that case until you get the battery swapped.
