Hi Brozee, no I went with the analog tuner as to there was some confusion as to whether the digital would take 2 sets of RCA A/V inputs along with the 1 RCA A/V output like the analog unit, Plus the digital was three times to cost of analog.

as far as wiring it was very self explanatory and a fun job to do, not a bunch of crazy wires.

Maybe we should start a separate thread on TV/MMI retrofit. I would do this if all the parts fell in my lap

No there is just static as there are no antennas and I gusse no analog stations.
the TV tuner is used as a input output box, as it has the green FBAS connector to go to the front MMI unit behind glove box which allows what is sent to the TV tuner box (dvd, rvc, playstation, digital TV tuner, any RCA A/V input) to display on the MMI screen.

Hi All,
Brozee sorry to take so long to get back on this, but to make this quick, yes I did it myself,I went with the analog as it was less cost, much less, also the analog allows for you to add (2) RCA A/V INPUTS and (1) RCA A/V OUTPUT (say if you wanted a screen added in the trunk or any where) into the (RED)20 PIN TV wiring connector in the trunk, So I did the (2) ins and the (1) out, and I also got a RCA A/V 2 in 1 out switcher, so I can have a total of (3) inputs, set mmi to A/V 1 in P,N,or Drive and I have video on all three screens, put it in reverse and the 12 volt trigger to the A/V switcher sends the rear view camera to the mmi screen, set the mmi to A/V 2 and I can have say a after market Digital TV tuner there or a Play station, front camera etc.

As far as how hard the job was, not at all, remove the glove box to change out MMI with one with the green fbas connector, remove pass front kick plate and side sills and rear seat side panel to run the (1) green fabs coaxial cable to trunk, put glove box and sills, kick plate back in, then move to the trunk where you will remove acc rack and insert TV tuner, insert the Kufatec fiber optic and wiring into the vehicle, the RED 20 PIN connector that plugs into the TV tuner is where you add the (2) RCA A/V inputs and the output if you want, remove the 20 pin cover and insert pins as per wiring diagram for the ins and out, run the (1) hot lead for TV tuner to fuse panel right next to rack, now the physical work is done.

NOW if you get a non USA MMI unit you will have to flash it to USA, or you will have all European info on screen (which was pretty cool looking), next adjust speed so video plays at all speeds, I think up to 250kph, I did all this with the Ross-Tech.

If you you need info on flashing {LOL} and speed level let me know.

Manual Video- In Adapter A6 4F, A8 4E, Q7 4L
Please disconnect the battery before starting installation.
The TV receiver has to be removed of the left hand side of the trunk (Q7 right hand side). Remove the 20-
pole red connector. Remove the red housing and put the single looms of the adapter into the black
connector as follows:
PIN-configuration:
PIN 09 – Shield Audio left/right PIN 15 – Shield Audio left/right 2
PIN 10 – Audio signal white, left PIN 16 – Audio signal white, left 2
PIN 11 – Audio signal red, right PIN 17 – Audio signal red, right 2
PIN 12 – Video signal gelb PIN 18 – Video signal 2
PIN 13 - Video/ Shield PIN 19 – Video/ Shield
Video output (only for Hybrid-Tuner):
PIN 4 – Video Shield
PIN 5 – Video signal
PIN 6 – Audio Shield
PIN 7 – Audio left
PIN 8 – Audio right

I found this on line,{credit to Etra from Lithuania} it shows how to convert from USA to European, So I just did it European to USA, and then the updates to latest MMI.

thanks everyone for help i finally did it Audi a8 us converting to EU

this is how it was done.

US-2-EU MMI conversion:

First of all:

-remove the navigation DVD
-remove all Cd's from the CD changer

Then you have to go to the 'hidden menu':

1. open the “hidden menu” on the MMI by pushing first SETUP, en then CAR, keeping them pushed for about 5 seconds.

If this doesn't work, you will need to enable this option by means of VAG COM:

Select 07 - Control Head
Select Adaptation - 10
Select Channel 08
Select Read
Enter new value 1
Select Test
Select Save
Select Done, Go Back
Select Close the controller

Push SETUP & CAR button again, and you should get into the ‘hidden menu’

2. in the ‘hidden menu’ goto MMI>Settings en set “SWDL Manuel” and “SWDL ignore Region/VMC' (see picture in previous post) ON

3. insert the EU 5570 file CD in the CD changer on location 1
4. choose in the “hidden menu” for “Start Bootloader”
5. Unit will start update
6. When the update finished: leave the 5570 CD in the changer, and press SETUP & RETURN at the same time and choose “UPDATE”
7. The system will update
8. When finished: remove the 5570 CD from the changer
9. Insert the latest EU DVD in the DVD player
10. Check whether the unit will read the DVD and shows TMC etc.

Posts: 66 OEM TV tuner retrofit for A6 4F US specs (works on A8 with high MMI) 9 pics long

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You will need :

1. OEM TV tuner Part # 4E0 919 146 OR 146A

2. OEM MMI control interface box with FBAS input(notice the green FBAS connector , not on US control MMI box). FBAS input on interface box hooks up with the FBAS output on TV tuner.

3. Wiring kit ( optic fiber + wire harness + FBAS coax cable + A/V input ) kit sold at kufatec.de for 99 E

4. TV antenna ( no clue about the model number or where to get them) i still need help on that part , i just using the A/V input to play DVDs on my MMI screen.

Install instructions :

1. Remove Glove box to access MMI interface box , interface is bolted with lable facing down right above the glove box under passenger airbag , replace with EURO version with FBAS input. Attach and run the Coax FBAS green connector from the interface box to the left far side of the trunk where the nav box and the K-box is.

2. Install TV tuner in empty slot under nav box, you will have to remove the whole rack and install the tuner in the MOST ring, i didn't use the optic fiber loop i just plugged it where the SAT radio is suppose to plug in the most ring, and finally run the power cable provided on the harness to fuse box located on the right side on the trunk over the battery.

No point in the antennas, since there is nothing to receive with them in the US anyways. Also VNS Media can add an FBAS input to existing MMI control units.

NO Sheite Sherlock on the antennas,
as far as VNS, it would be any where from 49. to 74 Euro just for shipping each way to Poland along with the 76.euro to add the FBAS to the MMI, never mind the down time of the vehicle waiting the almost two week turn around time.
I always thought that the fbas connector could be added to my existing control head, but did not want to break the seal for resale purpose, but now I will open it to see if there is a receptacle for it as my mmi has a green dot where it would be...

Thanks JJJ

There are a few parts other than the connector which need to be added. VNS media published a photo with the parts needed.

THIS ONE http://www.ebay.com/itm/Audi-A8-D3-3G-Digital-Hybrid-TV-tuner-Receiver-DVB-4F0919129D-/130895486750?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item1e79fa9f1e

Also the analog unit of course no longer works as we have no analog signals, and the "hybrid analog/digital" does not work either in the US or Canada as we now have the "ATSC TV Standard", the Hybrid is "DVB_T" and a few others but not ATSC, but either unit may be used in a manner like a home stereo receiver were you input your A/V 1 and A/V 2 sources to be displayed on the MMI.

I'm not a specialist (yet ) in Audi tv tuners, but this one says that it is for 3G.... mine is S8 model 2009 with 2G ... so I assume should be this one ? 4E0910148C (4E0910148E)

One more question: is it possible to replace Audi music interface

with Audi multimedia

I mean would it be just swap (plug'n'play) or some cables needed, etc ?
Really got confused, I just want to watch videos in my car
