Upgrade from D3 to D4?
So, I went to see my sis 2017 A8L 3.0T that I found for them in Torrance CA. It's a 3.5 years CPO with 13k miles for $50k which they're willing to pay for this Pristine, like new D4. They've never had an A8L before, yes, my sis is driving a 2016 Q5 and she's loving it.
After driving the D4, looking at all the features, I don't think I would pay $47k difference for the D4 over my D3 ($3k), here is my opinions. Yes, it's nice for people who's never had Audi A8L before. CPO is a must for near new A8L.
1- The ride is the same, I noticed the D3 comfort mode is less floating than the D4 comfort mode, D3 is more sturdy on the freeway. My 13 year old 129k miles on the highway is still great.
2- The interior is a little bit more stuff, but basically the same features as my D3 - NO TPMS on individual tire, just storing all 4 and will show the one that's low (6psi interval) -
3- 2017 still doesn't have CarPlay/Android Auto (my 2017 eGolf has it standard) - the Bluetooth media can't be controlled with the steering wheel buttons - Audi is really backward with MMI bluetooth software.
I'm not sure if the D4 is actually more reliable as my D3. Time will tell, but for now, I wouldn't be too hurry to upgrade my D3, still loving it although it's not as perfect as the newer one.
Cheers,
Louis

My plan was to get a 2-3 year old D5 for my '04 D3 when it reached the end of it's useful life.. Since mine is still good at almost 300,000 miles, I'll keep it as I'm not daily driving it these days as my empl;oyer gave me a "car" including insurance, fuel and car washes.
I use my A8 mainly for road trips these days.

I think D5 worth considering not D4 when you already have a nice D3. Can't stand Audi short changes consumers with inferior software and features.
I couldn't believe how good my 06 ride was so smooth driving home last night with CarPlay playing music, still quiet and sturdy.
Cheers,
Louis
